A pair of scallop shell-form wall brackets or ornamental dishes in fine white porcelain with a delicate gilded rim, each finished with precision ribbing radiating from a central boss. The reverse of each piece is fitted with keyhole wall-mounting slots, these were made to be mounted as soap dishes, decorative wall ornaments, or bathroom accessories. Marked on the reverse with the Céramique de Paris crossed-swords stamp. Glazed pure white with a soft lustre and the characteristic quality of French mid-century decorative porcelain. Approximate decade: Mid-century French porcelain.
Collector's note: Céramique de Paris was a respected French producer of decorative and domestic porcelain. Shell-form wall dishes of this type were produced for the grand bathroom and boudoir tradition; functional, beautiful, and unmistakably French. Equally lovely mounted as intended, used as vanity trays, or displayed as sculptural objects.
