Features a sheer black net ground embroidered with hand-applied jet black glass beads in an elaborate botanical motif of flowers and foliage throughout the shoulders and short cap sleeves, finished with a dramatic cascading fringe of hand-strung jet bead drops along the entire hem. Round neckline with a fine beaded edge.
Approximate decade: 1890s–1910s (Late Victorian / Edwardian)
Collector's note: This is an exceptional and rare piece of Victorian mourning fashion. The jet bead embroidery combined with the fringe construction is consistent with high-quality French or English workshop production of the period. Jet beaded textiles of this quality and completeness are increasingly difficult to find intact. A true collector's statement piece.
