A small rectangular silver-plated evening purse with softly rounded corners, smooth polished body, and a fine twisted link chain. Opens via a simple ball-press clasp at the top centre, revealing a plain interior, sized for calling cards, a folded note, or a few coins. The silver plate has developed a rich uneven patina with areas of dark oxidation and warm highlights, entirely consistent with genuine age. A beautiful object. Approximate decade: 1890s–1910s (Edwardian)
Collector's note: Small silver-plated evening purses of this form were carried by women at formal occasions; opera, theatre, dinner, suspended from the wrist or a chatelaine hook.
